Blame it on Eve album available for streaming on last.fm
This doesn't count as one my entries, but the submission I made finally went through, and you can stream the entire Blame it on Eve album, cheekily called "Greatest Hits," at last.fm. I put that I wanted users to have the ability to download the songs, but I can't quite figure out how to do that. So, if you would like a copy of the album, either in mp3 or in full-quality CD, shoot me an email (on the about page) or let me know in the comments.

The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist
Popular Culture, an English-department class of which I am a member, requires that the students create a "media project" based on the readings we've done in class. Since these readings include DJ Spooky's Rhythm Science, I decided that I'm going to do a remix (probably based off of 50s sex-ed videos from archive.org). Anyway, as I was researching DJ / remix groups for inspiration, I came across this gem by The Avalanches, entitled "Frontier Psychiatrist."

You can download the mp3 here.
Alternatively, you can watch the music video here
Band names with meat in them
During a conversation between Ashley and I, we started coming up with band names that have some sort of meat in them. For example:
The Meatles
Scrapple in Stereo
Do Steak Say Think
Pretty Girls Steak Graves
Less Than Steak
Cherry Poppin' Patties
Clap Your Ham Say Yeah
Fiona Scrapple
Gravy Jones
Sunny Day Veal n' Steak

Jeff Duckley
Hot Hot Meat
Nine Inch Quails
Justin Tenderloin
Nick Steak
No Trout
The Poultry Service
The Beef Boys
Can anyone else think of any other ones?

The Muffin Man
I tend not to dwell on the past too often. But few memories bring me as much joy as the time my old band Blame it on Eve performed a genre-bending cover of "The Muffin Man" at the Hammonton High School "Battle of the Bands" to a packed auditorium.
It starts out simply enough: Steve accompanies the lines "Do you know the muffin man, the muffin man, the muffin man? Do you know the muffin man...." with a minimal slow strum on the guitar. Then for the next lines, "...who lives on Drury Lane," he cranks up the distortion and plays a crescendoing chugga-chugga riff. Then the song explodes, drum, bass, and guitar, into what can best be described as a pop-punk interpretation of the song. At this point I gathered that most of the audience was fairly incredulous. But it gets better.
After the pop-punk fiasco, Rob, the drummer, transitions into a breakbeat. This is followed by the following priceless exchange between myself and the audience:
- When I say muffin, you say man - muffin!
- (silence)
- Muffin!
- (silence)
This is repeated once or twice, then followed by something like "Muffin man! Say it as loud as you can! Yeah, muffin man. Alright."
It was pretty much a flop, but high school students aren't really known for either their subtlety or their sense of humor. I'm still bitter that we lost to that Nu metal band. Maybe if I too had taken off my shirt during the performance, I wouldn't be griping. But I had to think about all the poor girls that probably would have fainted if I tried to pull off such a stunt.

Best Songs of 2004
I'm sure you're mostly all sick of end-of-the-year lists, but I haven't quite had my fill yet. So, I've made this list of songs that I feel were the best of the last year. Of course I only included one song from each artist, as is proper etiquette in such lists. Additionally, some of these songs come off of various EPs that didn't make it onto my "best albums" list. For those who would be interested in lending their ear, I've set up a torrent tracker for it here. Enjoy!
01. Of Montreal - Spike the Senses
02. Belle and Sebastian - Your Cover's Blown
03. Elliott Smith - Twilight
04. Brian Wilson - Wonderful
05. Bright Eyes - Take It Easy (Love Nothing)
06. Ben Kweller - Hospital Bed
07. Morrissey - First of the Gang to Die
08. Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out
09. Snow Patrol - Run
10. Rilo Kiley - It's a Hit
11. The Streets - Fit But You Know It
12. The Thrills - Whatever Happened to Corey Hai?
13. A.C. Newman - Miracle Drug
14. Daniel Johnston - Rock This Town
15. Air - Venus
16. The Trash Can Sinatras - Got Carried Away
17. The Faint - Southern Belles in London Sing
18. Phantom Planet - Big Brat
19. Modest Mouse - World At Large
20. The Advantage - Castlevania 3 - Evergreen
Best Albums of 2004
Oh, aught-four. Is it already that time again? Indeed it is. I've mulled over this list for quite some time, and I've listened to more crappy music than you can shake a stick at - from the numerous indie pop bands which thoroughly disappointed me to the bizarre Ralph Wiggum-on-a-harp that is Joanna Newsom. But let's not belabour the point. I'm Frankie Dintino, and I approve this list.

New Demo
vaporware - /vay'pr-weir/ Software that is announced long before it is ready for sale, and that sometimes never materializes. The term came from Atari users and was later applied by Infoworld to Microsoft's continuous lying about Microsoft Windows' release date.
If I had to come up with a band name for my solo stuff, "vaporware" would probably be the most suiting. I've gotten a bad reputation for starting things and then never, or at least rarely, finishing on time. That doesn't just go for music, but for pretty much everything. However, I broke the viscious cycle and somehow managed to sustain my concentration and interest long enough to write a new song / record a demo of it. There aren't any vocals or drums yet (Steve or Rob, would you please record a drum track for me?) but I'm still extremely happy with the result. Please give it a listen and tell me what you think. Oh, and it doesn't have a name, since it doesn't have any lyrics yet.

Best Albums of 2003
Well, actually, this list is simply my favorite albums of 2003, but that's the same thing as 'the best' right? 2003 was a decent year for music, though I don't think it was quite as good as 2002. Anyway, here's what I've come up with:

Keeping Going What You're Doing
For historical purposes, I've set up the original Blame it on Eve site here (for those not in the know, Blame it on Eve is my old band). The message board, info, and contact parts are down - but you can download the final cuts to three of our songs: Keeping Going What You're Doing, Maynard the Moose, and Carnie Rock. The old demos aren't on there for bandwidth reasons. If anyone wants a copy of the CD just IM me (again, Frankieist), or email me at fdintino at comcast.net (spambots be damned!) with your mailing address and I'll send you one.

Vivendi Burning MP3.com Library to the Ground
Vivendi has announced that it's flushing all the music it hosts at MP3.com down the toilet:
...they're not selling the archive, containing more than a million songs by 250,000 artists. As of December 3rd, they're destroying it.
What's Going on at Kindercore?
I sensed that something was terribly wrong when Kindercore decided to place two legos on their website, their original one, and this new one. Apparently, the label that hosts such bands as Dressy Bessy and Of Montreal decided to expand their horizons, and include hardcore bands under their new skull logo. Now, anyone who has ever heard Dressy Bessy or Of Montreal knows how completely absurd this juxtaposition is. About a week ago Pitchfork reported that Kindercore's financiers have pulled out and that it is no more. Now, though, it looks like this might not be the case, but there is a power struggle between the two parts of the label going on and it is in under chaos. So Of Montreal, Dressy Bessy, Mercury Program, Jet By Day and Agenda are without a label. Gersey, Palomar and I Am The World Trade Center are shopping for new ones. The only bands which is actually staying on the label is Japancakes. Hmmm. The whole intriguing story is over at Pitchfork.
Album Cover Finder
I came across this amazingly useful album finder. Apparently it searches amazon and comes up with the images - you can even leave the album field blank and get all the album covers for a band.
Album Covers in Lego
Someone with more time on their hands than I have and some initiative has decided to make a small gallery of album covers replicated with legos - my only complaint is the selection could be a bit better, but oh well.
Kids Review Stuff
Kids review recent music, radiohead, Guided by Voices, and classic video games (my personal favorite, next to the radiohead one).
Postal Service Recieves Cease-and-Desist Order
In news worthy of the Onion, The Postal Service of recent indie fame has recently received a cease-and-desist order from the U.S. Postal Service. I'm sure the problem was that people were getting confused and going to Sub Pop Record Labels trying to send there mail . Pitchfork's take on it is humorous:
Tamborello notes: "Ben's not around to work on little things like this. It's more just in the spirit of [The Postal Service]. But actually, the U.S. Postal Service sent us a cease-and-desist letter. We're talking to them right now, it's not figured out yet. So all these remixes I've had to do under different names." Ridiculous! I'm sure if it were up to Ashcroft bands like the Dead Kennedys, Bush, Anthrax, the Presidents Of The United States Of America, and classic '80s indie outlet I.R.S. would have to pack it up, too. It just goes to illustrate the misplaced priorities of this administration. I mean, if the federal government sends any band a cease-and-desist letter this year, it should be Staind!
And maybe Creed while they're at it.
